Illustration, 2D animation

Completed an apprenticeship with Paramount Students as an Illustrator and 2D Animator, contributing to a variety of creative projects.

Style Development
Project

Initially, my team and I were tasked with developing the visual language guidelines for the animated videos we planned to produce. This served as a blueprint for maintaining visual consistency across all projects, especially important since different people would be working on different videos. The guidelines also helped new team members quickly adopt the brand’s visual identity and style.

Developing the guide involved a series of collaborative meetings where we discussed industry trends, analysed the company’s existing visual marketing materials, and assessed various illustration and animation techniques based on their complexity and effectiveness. Our goal was to create a streamlined, visually cohesive framework that balanced creative impact with production efficiency, minimizing potential challenges while ensuring clarity and consistency across all videos.

Animation Project 1

*Storyboard, concept art and character design.

Each project was assigned to a team of two: one illustrator responsible for preparing all visual assets in Adobe Illustrator, and one animator in charge of bringing those assets to life with Adobe After Effects. Projects began with the teams creating a storyboard based on the project brief. During dedicated review meetings, all teams—including the department head—provided each other with feedback. Once revisions were made, the team could proceed with illustration and animation. Typically, the illustrator worked scene by scene, enabling the animator to begin animating simultaneously. Progress was reviewed in weekly meetings, where each team received feedback to guide further development.

At the start of each new project, team members had the option to choose between the roles of illustrator or animator based on their interests and strengths.

The video above is from a project where my partner left the team at the very beginning. Eager to challenge myself, I spoke with my department lead and proposed continuing the project solo, taking on both the illustration and animation responsibilities.

Animation Project 2

This was the first animated project I worked on for Paramount Students, where I took on the role of illustrator. To help speed up the process, I also assisted my colleague with some of the animation work. This experience boosted my confidence in my animation skills and motivated me to take on greater animation responsibilities in later projects.

Animation Project 3

This is the intro to an instructional video for which I was once again responsible for both the illustration and animation. During this time, I also supported new team members by helping them learn our workflow and understand the established visual language.

Mascot Project

My team was also involved in other aspects of branding and advertising. At one point, the company was exploring the idea of introducing a mascot for use on their website and across various communication channels. Each team member was asked to develop several design concepts ahead of a group meeting, where we presented our ideas to the department head. A selection of these concepts was then submitted to the company's senior management for final consideration.

On the left are my mascot design proposals. I was particularly fond of the puzzle-themed character and created a short animation to demonstrate my vision for how it would move.
